2026 Plain English Speaking Award

PESA is a public speaking competition for students in Years 11 and 12, designed to encourage the use of clear, effective spoken English. The state winner goes on to represent Western Australia at the national final, which is now held online.

Since its establishment in 1977, the competition has provided a valuable opportunity for secondary students to build confidence and develop their speech-writing and public speaking skills.

The competition is open to all secondary school students across Western Australia. Last year’s state winner was Samantha Lee from Iona Presentation College.

Registrations for the 2026 competition opened on 1 March and will close on 1 May.
